023. Mardi Gras Designs: Krewe Comus 1910

First of all, I would like to say hello and thank you to all my new followers! I really appreciate every single person who follows and/or comments. It literally makes my day. I'm thinking of maybe doing a giveaway soon in appreciation!

A couple weeks ago the library had all these books on Louisiana and New Orleans out on display, and although I was walking out in a hurry, there was this amazing book on Mardi Gras that I couldn't resist flipping through. It had all this Mardi Gras history along with float and costume designs going back into the 18th century. These specific pictures are floats from the Mystick Krewe of Comus parade of 1910. The drawings are absolutely stunning, I love the colors and the influence of the natural elements of the designs. There's some celestial inspiration in them as well, like moons and stars worked into the designs. I got most of these images online from This flickr, but some of them I downloaded from Tulane's Louisana digital resource. Do you have a favorite?

I find myself so inspired by these images, but do you like these sort of posts? Should I post more designs in the future? I would love to post more if people are interested!
